A resolution to make animal testing illegal

Whereas: Researchers test pharmaceuticals in animals to determine if

it is safe and worthwhile to proceed to human trials, and how best to

 design those trials; and

Whereas: The animals for the tests are often abused, locked in the

small cages, and are left to suffer and die; and

Whereas: From 50 to 100 million vertebrate animals worldwide are used

annually and either killed during the experiments or subsequently

 eutherized; and

Whereas: The animal testing is not reliable; and

Whereas: Since all the species have different physiology, the

probability that the drugs works for animals, as well as human, is

 less than 50%; and

Whereas: There have been cases of side effects from the drugs that

: were approved to be safe with animals; and

: Whereas: There are alternatives for the animal testing, such as

: computer simulations and cell cultures; and

: Be it resolved by this Student Congress here assembled, that animal

testing shall not be allowed in the United States; and

: The study for the alternative shall be funded by capital investments.
